In the beginning
There was van...
Greetings and salutations,
My name’s Piers, so glad you stopped by. Please, stay a while.
So, why a sub-stack you ask?
Well, the answer is simple: I’m looking for an easy way to document my initial foray into solo van life.
I’ve been converting a 1996 Toyota HIACE into a camper over the course of the summer, and am just about ready to step into the wild…in a manner of speaking.
So, come along with me as I chart my first adventure, I’d be thrilled for the company.
The loose plan is to make my way down to Los Cabos, in Mexico, and then head back to the Pacific Northwest by way of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada.
It’s my aim to assess van life as a viable means of existing in the world.
I dream of living outside of traditional ways of doing in the West, and escaping the doldrums of what most people call the American status quo to create a life that prioritizes strong interpersonal connections, purpose, broader perspective, and the start of the new chapter.
I’m taking of after Thanksgiving with only a vague plan, and trust that I’ll find my way. The rest, I leave up to chance.
Someday is today, so let’s go.
